![]() That said, The Crimson Curse is highly contagious if you love a challenge, you should do your best to catch it. It's all quite disturbing, so caution is advised. On top of that, things are pretty crazy what with everyone bleeding, drinking blood, or going through gibbering blood withdrawal. Even with the new Flagellant class bolstering party damage with his appetite for self-destruction, you're bound to lose your hard-won treasure, your party, and maybe even your self-respect. Getting to these bosses takes grit and tenacity, and beating them takes serious skill. Uncover the fascinating history of Avadon and the land of Lynaeus. Not only do you have to worry about running into shape-changing, disease-carrying bosses - you might also run into a Curse-hating religious fanatic ready to burn-at-the-stake first and ask questions later. Four different character classes, with dozens of unique spells and abilities. The benefit of this becomes increasingly apparent as you go along. ![]() Fortunately, the expansion has been improved: now, if circumstances force you to leave the dungeon before finishing it, you don't have to start all over again. The new campaign sends your heroes into dungeons far larger than they've ever seen before. Let your playing style dictate who you bring. Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses. Despite its new vampire theme and new "casual" mode, Darkest Dungeon: The Crimson Court is just as challenging. It doesnt really matter who you bring with you. You can't fake your way through it you really have to understand each of your hero's abilities and limitations, not to mention how those work alongside other heroes'. Darkest Dungeon separates the casual gamer from the hard-core (or perhaps the patient from the impatient). It's a much more unforgiving game, so you are somewhat forced to min-max in some situations. This difficult role-playing game expansion will test even the most dedicated player, but will reward them with a deep experience. So you may walk through a dungeon easily capable of killing everything, until you get to the next tier enemy (not even necessarily the dungeon boss) and he/she/it alone will AoE whipe your party in about 2 moves if you're not prepared. See, in Avernum, all it takes is one special enemy to completely whipe your party if you're not ready for it. And if you enter a town from the west side, you will appear at the town's west gate, and so on.Īnother thing with Avernum is that, playing on the toughest difficulty, you REALLY have to consider your party setup, and you have quite a bit less freedom with your class builds, because enemies that die stay dead (other than random overworld encounters) which means you might, at some point, hit a wall where you've gone everywhere you can survive and have nowhere to train your party other than farming the overworld, which takes AGES sometimes. that fight is annoying as all hell and is very poorly designed. (its even hinted in the loading tips.) I managed to make that redheaded bastard die. Avernum also has an overworld that you walk around in, with random patrol encounters and some scripted ones. Its not a spoiler that you can fight Redbeard at some point. So Avernum is the tougher game you can pick your entire party of 4 and edit them as you like and once you're in the pit, you can pretty much go anywhere with the right tools, though you will probably die horribly in a lot of places. ![]() The following is a brief synopis of the game minus any spoilers. This means if you enter an area from another area to the south, you might still appear at the west/east/north or whatever entrance. Obviously the game is lacking in graphics, but if you want a huge world with an equally huge story that is also well written, this might be worth it for you. Avadon doesn't take into account which direction you entered an area from (which sucks imo). Avadon has no overworld, just a map with clickable locations similar to Geneforged - but the areas themselves are fairly big. Avadon has a more linear story structure (Even though you have endgame choices and the like, your path is a bit more focused with taking missions from Avadon and having that open new areas and such) Avadon has preset companions (this can lead to more focused companion stories and quests) Avadon is easier (Playing both games on Torment and Avadon is FAR easier) I liked both games, but they're pretty different games. Avernum being better is totally subjective.
